EvictionFreeNY protected nearly 20,000 New York State tenants from eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic under the New York State eviction moratorium.
The HP Action Tool helped about 3,000 renters start a Housing Court case online against their landlord for repairs or harassment during COVID. The tool was de-activated due to abrupt changes in Housing Court procedures.
The Advocate Dashboard helped tenants and their advocates (e.g., organizers or lawyers) document repair issues and organize information in preparation for a repairs case against their landlords. In 2020, JustFix replaced the Advocate Dashboard with more action-oriented tools for tenants.
Tenant Text offered information, via text message, in English and Spanish about a wide variety of tenant rights issues. In order to make updates and improvements, JustFix has suspended Tenant Text.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, JustFix launched NoRent to help tenants nationally who were unable to pay rent due to COVID-19. Eventually, the tool narrowed in on working locally in Los Angeles County with our partner SAJE. Sending a NoRent letter was an important tool in protecting tenants from eviction.
